The way we work

Thetaplan’s business is structured around matching the ideal team to a particular project, with Thetaplan acting as the main client interface and co-ordinator in most cases. We have a network comprising the best young architects in Gauteng and we draw on them to form a joint venture for a particular project. These are individuals and entrepreneurs who share our philosophy of ethical practice, professionalism and being pro-survival. To date, more than 110 professionals have worked with us in this way, and there are at least 30 projects underway at any given time.

This collaborative approach means that risk and reward is proportionately shared by Thetaplan and its various consultants. The concept of collaboration is, however, taken a step further. We have created the Thetaplan Academy, which is an environment in which junior architects and other young people requiring skills and experience in the industry are recruited to projects and mentored by the professionals within a team. This prepares them to take on more senior roles in future projects and to go out and pursue their own entrepreneurial activities.

The Academy concept has been further extended to attract graduates in the near future, into a formal working environment and prepare them for a prosperous future in the industry. Thetaplan has partnered with a long-term client that will offer consistent work and that has a strong commitment to skills development. Thetaplan will identify top students in each of the relevant building industry professions from universities in

Gauteng and provide them with an infrastructure and appropriate mentors from each relevant discipline, to enable them to carry out the project-based work required by the client. Profit is shared between Thetaplan, Academy members and the building industry consultants in each profession who offer up their time and expertise to mentor these young professionals.

Once again the principle is to grow a skilled workforce that is also empowered to go out into the world and either join bigger companies or start their own companies when the time is right.

All the various arms of Thetaplan compliment each other and strive to develop quality resources for the building industry. Underlying our collective work, always, are the principles of inclusivity, empowerment and an uncompromising commitment to ethical practices.

We believe that sustainable building practices are a core component of ethical behaviour. Wherever possible, and despite a lack of firm legislation regulating such practices, Thetaplan is beginning to explore green building initiatives and other sustainable practices to help preserve our physical and natural resources for future generations.

Thetaplan’s vision is to achieve excellence in the art of architecture by means of clear communication, taken through from design to completed projects. In addition, we strive to complete the projects on time, within the budget and to the client’s satisfaction.
